Hello folks, i have been working on this car for 5years now, its in family around 18years, second owner

A lot was done on this car, so i will try to represent it step by step, its a very detailed topic, for true lovers

Then I got a RalliArt body kit in very bad shape, and spend around 200hours to get it in lets say good shape

So going with the engine

It was a stock 4G63 carb engine with 102hp

then i got original 2.0Turbo engine , known as a G63BT 8 valves, with 150hp

after some modding , adding up a intercooler, and settiong boost on 1.0bar it pulled out 175hp, but the power above 5000rpm was pretty bad

So i decided to go multipoint

i got a Megasquirt 2 Extra, intake manifold from 2.4 engine, 450cc eclipse injectors

after a lot of hard work, result was great, 227hp@5000rpm and 348Nm

Wau. The craftmanship is excellent, and special-extra-credit on starting a build on such a (nowadays) rare model. Anyone can just buy a new/newish car, and start putting bolt-on parts on it, but this is something else! Respect!

The story goes on

As turbo was very old, it starded smoking on idle, and i got a great deal on a DOHC engine, so the DOHC came in from eclipse, and i sold my engine to Austria

After fitting the engine, next problem was that engine moved forward, so there wasnt many space for the pipe from air filter to the turbo.

So i bought a SPAL slim ventilator, as stock one is really deep

colour is original ,Sarajevo Weis W18, but in clear coat it was added a bit of a crystal gold pearl, without sun or light you cant see it, it turned out very very good, and I was very satisfied with that.

So here is my design

two pipes through the rear muffler (bigger one(70mm on the electric cutout side, without holes on it), and smaller one (60mm, where gasses are going when cutout is closed(with holes in it, so the muffler can absorb sounds)
remember , the angle of those two pipes is very important, the bigger angle you got, the louder car will be when the cutout is opened

Later i had problems with a hot air when boosting. As the car still isnt mapped, and its in brake in proceduree hot air is allready a problem, so it would be big problem during the mapping

So i got almost a brand new intercooler from EVO10

I'm also having a boost creep problem with my Evo 3. How much porting did you do to solve the problem?

I heard the stock one is around 22mm diameter, and the flapper is 28mm or so.

the problem is here because you have upgrade your exhaust and probably your intake pipes and cooler.

during the mapping, boost creep is still visible(but not that much) but for completelly elimination I have used electronic boost controller

problem is the position of the wastegate. it is placed 90degrees on the air flow which is bad, so you need to smooth the edges as far as you think you can
the hole on the wastegate is 28mm, flapper is I think 32 or 34mm, cant remember now, mine is from EVO2 but should be the same on yours

so the best solution for this is to go on external wastegate, in that way you will get the best boost controll, but i want everything look stock

How far was your setup creeping before and after porting?

External wastegate would be ideal for any turbo setup, but I don't really want to modify my car that much at this point.
I love the response, torque and spool that the bigger exhaust gives, so wouldn't want to go smaller either.
Maybe support mods and E85 for fuel to fight knocking? ;D

well i cant answer on that question because i knew what is happening if you dont port your turbo. so i have ported it before mapping


well with external wastegate you wont loose spool or torque, instead you will get better spool (it will spool sooner for lets say 50-100rpm) you wont notice that, but on paper it will be better
because stock wastegate isnt shut 100%, because of the age the surfaces arent flat anymore
+ you will get great boost controll when boost hits


however i recommend you to upgrade to electronic boost controller in that way you almost wont have boost creep, with ecm link offcourse

Seems to me, that the torque is at quite high RPM and it's a bit down on power.
Of course I'm comparing that to Evos, but can there be as much mechanical difference?

For example, an Evo 3 from the club had highest torque at 3600rpm (430 Nm) on 1 bar boost and after that it slowly tapered down to 300 Nm at redline.

Could the porting affect spool somehow, or is there something else?

Yep, its a huge mechanical difference between 6bolt and 7bolt, for stock engines of course


6bolt angine has 7.8compression ratio
Evo1-2 8.5compression ratio
Evo3 9.0compression ratio

Thats a huge difference, especially for nowdays fuel

Do you have a boost graph? Or when does it build the desired boost pressure?

I have electronic boost controll, so iam limitating it doesnt hit hard(less stress for engine)

Setup is set this way

Till 2250rpm 0.5bar
2250-2750 0.7bar
2750-3250 1.1bar
3250- 1.3bar

But in real iam seeing 1.3bar on around 3900rpm

Its evo2turbo

What do you think its wrong?

next thing for deal with was suspension and handling


Suspension was original, but all springs are worn out and old, rear shocks were leaking, and also the car was too soft to handle that kind of power so i upgrade it to much better level

Ive bought Cusco street ZERO coilovers for Lancer EVO III

car handles much much better in corners, over the holes its almost like stock suspension, over the speed bumps you have to be little gentle , overall very good coilover

Also got the powerflex camber bolts as the car sits little lower now

Then the next problem was grip, i had only 2 and a half years old tyres but they didnt have grip at all

So i bought new tyres Continental Contisportcontact 5 215/45/17, also as I will upgrade the brakes i need new wheels that are the same dimensions (17" , 7J , ET40) but with flatter spokes
that means more space for bigger brake calipers, luckily i found Superleggeras which are 4kg lighter than previous wheels EACH! and also they have 1,5cm more space for brake calipers

redrilled discs to 4x114,3 and test fit, it fills up the 17" nicely

Hubs are the same as eclipse/evo123/fto only bolt pattern is different 5x114(eclipse,fto)

fluidampr is a gooood choise! Made a big difference in my car even on idle. Smoothens everything up.

Thats a good question.

I think the only part of a car that need more attention is the engine bay. Its first colour and white. You even cant wash it now properly. So a new paint would be needed , but i dont have in plan in any soon future to put out the engine and all other accessories just to paint the engine bay.

Also looking for the left NEW tail light. As mine has damage :)

There would be much more longer list if you are fussy as f**k, but keep in mind this is a very old and very rare, and the most important thing very unpopular car, so parts are very hard to find, but so far Iam incredibly very good at finding ones :D

Crankpreassure was next thing to deal with, no more oil dip stick popping out and inlet on turbo is now dry :)

so I have made a custom valve cover, drilled a much larger hole, and weld bigger fitting, removed PCV valve and also put a bigger one, but left the thread in case i will want to return PCV :)

Next thing to deal with was the power windows switch.

First they started to fail on the main one (passanger window couldnt go up) and also letters worn out after years of using

First i have disassembled everything, cleaned up the contacts, and it all woreked again like a charm

Then i found a ultra rare JDM main power window switch that has Door Lock option on it and AUTO funstion for drivers window.
 It was in Malaysia, and it is very very hard to communicate with them and in the end to get parts from

So i accepted a challenge of making a UNIQUE, only in the world, LHD main switch with AUTO power windows on drivers doors, and Door lock option

And finally received it after 2months

Next big problem was it was all for RHD (you cant put AUTO function on the left side) and also you need to use LHD plastic surround to fit properly
However plastic surround didnt have DOOR LOCKS sign


after days of researching, find up it wasnt a sticker on the buttons and plastic surround. It was printed with high quality colour that remains under usage of fingers
luckily i found one guy who was able to do this for me, so i have also refurbed buttons and plastic surround, also all other buttons on passanger doors

next thing about AUTO function. Mitsubishi Galant Sigma in USA had AUTO function on driver window as a LHD. luckily found one with broken plastic and cutted wires, but again seller didnt want to ship, so I had to find agents etc.
after 2more months finally item arrived

next problem was it didnt have DOOR LOCK, so i had to cut the JDM one and weld it with USA one

Next. all was working except AUTO function for driver window when it go UP.
Thing is, in the US there was a child proof law. so the button had some kind of restriction, and also 1wire was missing from the small control unit plate (white wire in the picture above was added).


When it all was solved , here is the final result

From 3very rare parts, I got 1 Unique with all functions working :)
Final result: astonishing :D
