http://media.mitsubishi-motors.com/pressrelease/e/corporate/detail198.htmlMMC will supply VCC with the GDI engines for installation in S40 and V40 Volvo models produced at NedCar, Holland. MMC will also supply manual transmissions for use with the engines.
The ultra-efficient GDI engine combines very low fuel consumption with high power outputs. MMC became the first manufacturer to develop and apply this engine technology. With the GDI engine and transmission, VCC is to complement the existing and planned engine program previously envisaged for S40 and V40.

The efficiency is increased, especially in city traffic and when the engine is idling or running at low speed, by direct injection of the fuel into the cylinders and precise control of the fuel supply. In this operating range, combustion in the new direct-injection engine is carried out with excess air similar to the combustion of diesel. This is known as Clean combustion. Emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon
monoxide are just as low as from a conventional petrol engine with a catalytic converter. To date, the technology
is available only in the Volvo S40 GDI.
